During the past year, a few of the Howick High School teachers started collecting bread tags. We decided to make that a part of our Enviro-Squad Project and encouraged the whole school to collect early this year. In Term 1, a total of 6 889 grams was collected. The school can really be proud of this excellent achievement. More bread tags will be collected over the next years and we hope the statistics continue to grow. A huge amount of water is also saved from collecting bread tags. Since they are made from plastic, we calculated that one kilogram of plastic saves approximately two hundred litres of water. However, we are not only saving water, but also helping the physically disabled as two hundred kilograms of bread tags can make one wheelchair.
