Our finished product

Our water bottle recycling was going so well we decided to try and upcycle the bottles we collected .Upcycling means to reuse discarded objects or material in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original. some items which would then be sold to raise money. We had decided as part of our upcycling initiative. We created decorative items and storage containers. At our water festival we demonstarted how to make pencil cases using donated zips and plastic bottles. We also created a footstool from the recycled bottles . Here's what we did:

  1. We rinsed and dried the plastic bottles. With the bottle caps on, we gathered all the plastic bottles in a circular shape and secured them with tape.
  2. We cut a wooden circular shape for the top and covered the sides of the base with padding . We secured this in place with tape and hot glue.
  3. We then covered the top and base with fabric that was donated to us  and glued all in place firmly.

We are proud of our efforts to create a piece that is both stylish and usable from items that would otherwise be thrown away. Upcylcling is fun, environmentally friendly and saves water!
