Shoebox Appeal

We, the students and teachers of Castleisland Community College organised the Christmas Shoebox Appeal for children in the developing world. All students and teachers were asked to bring in recycled clothes and toys, in good condition, that they were no longer using. We wrapped the recycled shoeboxes that everyone brought in. The categories to choose from were ages 2-4, 5-9 and 10-14 for boys and for girls. Some of the art classes in the school made soft toys that were made from recycled buttons and recycled material. Transition year students made up the shoeboxes using the recycled clothes and toys along with bought items such as soap, copies, pencils, crayons and colouring books.  The third year CSPE class organised a cake sale to raise funds for the shoeboxes. The shoeboxes were on display on the open night to promote the Christmas shoebox appeal and to also encourage everyone to recycle items whenever possible. The school collected 106 shoeboxes and they are being sent to children in Albania for Christmas.
