Alien invasion
Posted by Northdene Preparatory School, South Africa on 4 January 2019

This challenge has a lot of parts to it, which we did over several months. We discussed all about alien plants and then chose Lantana camara as our invasive alien to focus on as it is colourful and easily identifiable. Our Water Explorer team made some lovely posters which we hung outside the Media Centre on our Water Explorer board. We also posted the best of the posters on our school Facebook page.

The we took to the school grounds to identify different types of leaves which was great fun. The senior phase learners on the field during break were very puzzled when they saw us running around picking leaves.

Our Green Team went down to the wetland we are developing and took out baby bugweed, balloon vine and the horrible cannas that grow down there. It is very encouraging to see how many indigenous wetland plants have grown since we did our last weeding.
