Chip packets are one of our main sources of litter at the school. We realize that litter on the ground ends up with litter in the sea.Soon there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans, that is really scary. Not only is it unsightly, but this plastic packaging is dangerous for an animal like turtles who accidentally mistake it for food. Toxic products in the plastic packaging moves up the food chain all the way to the apex predator-US!! There is no such thing as away and its difficult to recycle such material. Instead, we have joined the Eco-Brick challenge to collect and stuff chip packets into empty 2 litre bottles to make eco-bricks. Whilst it is not the ultimate solution, we can reuse waste to build eco-brick chairs, tables and even houses!! Check out the start of our ecobrick chairs.
